How should I care for my Dendrobium orchid after the flowers have faded? I have a nobile Dendrobium orchid that has flowers which are fading. There's a tall stalk with nothing but flowers that grow from the sides of the stalk. The stalk has no leaves, only flowers. At the base are 2 small suckers with leaves. I am concerned about what to do with the main stalk after all the flowers are gone. It will be completely bare. Should I cut it or what. I would greatly appreciate any advice from someone with experience growing nobile Dendrobiums. Thank you.
Around how long does dendrobium phalaenopsis take to bloom in tropical climate? I live in the Philippines which is a tropical country, and my searches say that most flowering plants including orchids bloom from late summer to fall. I guess I won't find that information useful to me. My plants send new growth even before flowering, so not sure when they will bloom. If anyone can give additional tips, please do. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

Light source for dendrobium orchid? Hi, I bought a plant section for a Dendrobium orchid Nobile - leaves and stalks with roots, no flowers. Anyway, the root are growing but I notice that whenever I put it beside a window, instead of standing upright, the whole thing bends sideways to face the window, and it looks really dumb! Do they have to recieve lighting directly from above? If so, is artificial lighting good enough? Thanks

Dendrobium questions? How can I split or depot my dendrobium and repot it into several bulbs? Do I just split the dendrobium bulbs into individual bulbs and repot it? There are around six to eight bulbs in a 2inch pot. I think I need to repot it as the roots and bulbs are spilling out of the pot. But I am afraid of killing the dendrobiums. Once I cut the bulbs, is there a solution I need to keep them into prior to repotting? There is no pictorial guide when I searched the web. I am a newbie in trying to repot my dendrobiums.

How do I re pot my dendrobium orchid? (uk)? This was bought for me 2 years ago when my son was born. It has flowered twice (since I started feeding it.....) but now, it seems to be getting a bit big for its pot. Do I repot it? If yes, how? There doesn't seem to be any compost as such, just a mass of roots, and more and more are appearing on the stems and winding their way down towards the pot!!! I went to a local homebase and spoke to a lady there who was very unhelpful, showed me the orchid compost and then told me that orchids don't need it anyway.....she offered no further advice!!!
Wobbly orchids in pots? I re-planted my oncidium and dendrobium in larger pots (6in) about 3-4 months ago but the plants are wobbly. I tried to plant them a bit deeper so they'll be sturdy but it doesnt work. The plants themselves are okay because the oncidium has spiked again (I never have any of my orchids re-bloomed at all in my 5 year experience of having orchids) and the dendrobium is growing very nice, thick, healthy white roots, which I didnt see before I moved it. My question: is it okay for the orchids to be wobbly in their pots? If not, how do I remedy it? I used medium size bark to re-plant the plants. Should I add other medium? Any tips is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Get answers from millions of real people.? My dendrobium orchids are rotting and the leaves are dying only at the very tip of the plants. The rest of the plant is healthy. This also happens when a new shoot comes out. It is healthy for the first few weeks then it starts to turn yellow and dies, always from the tip . Can you please advise me why this is happening. My green house is made of 50% black polythene but it is directly under a fruit bearing tree. Some say that this has an effect on the growth of the plants.
my orchid has a kiki? it has a kiki, it is a bamboo type dendrobium. I was reading that it could be making a kiki because it is dying. the leaves were turning yellow, but i followed the advice i found online, and cut the leaves and used cinnimon to protect the cuts. Does this sound like my orchid is dying of root rot?? please give me some feedback...
Orchid care? I've had an orchid for about one year now. It was my first orchid and I have managed to keep it alive, but it never rebloomed and just recently it's stem and many of it's full sized leaves have died off. I know now that I should have taken it out of the moss it was packed in and repotted it then, but I was orchid ignorant. Anyhow, I just bought the most beautiful Dendrobium orchid with a green flower and burgandy wine center. I would very much like to keep this one healthy. I've already repotted it with an orchid mixture containing bark, charcoal, and perlite in terra cotta pot. My question is: Exactly how often do you water an Orchid and when do you fertilize it? I've look it all up, but I get conflicting answers. Also, my poor little sad orchid that I almost killed still has two remaining green leaves but the roots are bad. I trimmed the roots and repotted it in the orchid mix. Do you think it can make a come back? I'd appreciate any feed back.
Orchid Basic Care? I have purchased many orchids plants and killed them. After more than 3 dozens or so (I lost count) in 5 years, I finally was able to get 2 of my orchids still alive, it's been more than 6 months. One is oncidium, the other is dendrobium. I've been placing them in the bathroom window above the shower after the blooms fell. The oncidium has spiked again (yipee). The dendrobium looks okay, but I cut off the flower stems after the blooms fell months ago. Is this okay? I'm also purchasing several other orchids (1 vanda, 1 phal, 1 cymbidium and 1 cattleya). Can any of them be planted outside? Also, any tips on how to cut off the stems after blooms for each species are appreciated. For fertilizing, I read that I should fertilize every 10 days to 2 weeks. How long do I have to do this and when? Is it all year long? Is the fertilizing method the same for all orchid species? When's blooming season for each species? What type of orchid media should I use? Thank you much for the tips.

What kind of guy "can pull off a boutonniere?"? In the Style section of Thursday's Wall Street Journal a reader is asking the WSJ what flowers look best with current fashion. She was asking because her husband was thinking about wearing one to a wedding. Hmmm I am going to one as well this summer. The WSJ said "There is something utterly dashing about a guy who can pull off a boutonniere." This was said before suggesting "a gardenia, cluster of mini calla lilies or a tiny dendrobium orchids" assuming he was wearing a "navy or dary grey suit." So, what kind of guy can pull it off?
Orchid care..whats wrong? I believe I have a dendrobium orchid. it is the type which looks like bamboo stalks with leaves protruding from the sides evenly. The problem is I have noticed pale black colored spots on the leaves they appear to be within the leaves and cannot be rubbed off like a surface type of mold or fungus. The plant appears to be doing ok and Im not loosing the leaves although a couple of the older leafs have split down the middle. Is this something that requires a change in care, is it a disease? or just normal.
