Does anyone know how to revive a sad Vanda orchid? I have a vanda orchid which when bought was beautiful. The flowers died and now the green part of the plant seems to be dying. This is one of those orchids that are grown with no compost - a kind of air orchid. Puzzled un-green fingers.
I am about to buy vanda orchid. I have already killed three. What do I have to do to keep them alive?? I bought 3 vanda orchids from ebay. They were seedlings. I have killed them off. I put them in the correct soil for orchids and misted them daily on a sunny window sill. Any tips to keep them alive would be most appreciated - I would talk to them if that would help!!!!!
Do vanda orchids like to live in standing water? I know some orchids, such as phragmipediums, like to grow in a small amount of clean, standing water. Others, like Paphiopedilums, don't. What about vandas?

Vanda Orchid Tree Problems? Hi, I bought a gorgeous 5 year old bloomed Vanda Orchid Tree and the leaves started to turn yellow 2 weeks ago. I'm really concerned as this is a stunning plant and don't know if it was overwatered or if the heat got to it. I just want to point out that I stopped the misting, and am giving it another few days before I try again. I noticed that some of the root tips are black. My other Vanda Orchid is fine... What is wrong? Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Vanda orchids...severly dry, how do I re-hydrate! Help!? I work at a local nursery and yesterday I brought home two discounted severly dehydrated vanda orchids. One of them has only one good root and is not in a container. The one root is thick and healthy looking, but the plant is very thin and limp. The other one looks like it has several decent roots, they are white and thick...but a little shriveled and dry looking. THey are green inside though so I think these roots may be able to come back to life. The plant is not as limp as the first one, but it is still very thin and obviously dehydrated. How can I rehydrate vanda orchids? Yesterday I dipped both of them in water with a bit of orchid fertilizer mixed in. I let them sit for about 10 minutes and took them out and let them sit overnight outside with the rest of my orchids. I looked at them this morning and no improvment, so I took the one with one root, and wrapped the root with a damp paper towel and set it on my dresser. THe other one is sitting with its roots in a sink of water. Is this a bad way to do it? How should I do it? I dont want them to rot! PLEASE HELP! These will be beautiful flowering orchids if they can be saved. Bright red and bright orange!!!

Vanda orchid help? What are some signs that my vanda orchid is growing well. From what i see it looks like my vanda has not grown at all. I live in louisiana. I keep the orchid on a swing outside underneath a large tree. I bought it last november, and since then it has lost about 5 leaves, leaving only 4. The vandas in the store have all died so i think i am doing a good job of keeping it alive. I try to water it once a day or every other day. I bought it in a orchid basket. I also keep a large bowl under it for extra humidity. The leaves are a like limey green color. Can anyone tell if my vanda is growing well. What are some characteristics for a healthy vanda. I paid 30 for it so i really do not want it to die. Any help is appreciated.
How should I pot a Vanda orchid? I bought a Vanda orchid from eBay, and didn't realize until just now when it was delivered that Vandas should be put in a slatted basket to hang. So now I have the plant and nothing to put it in! Is there any other way to "pot" a Vanda besides teak baskets? What should I do with it in the meantime, if I must get a basket? I know I've seen sellers hang Vandas without those baskets, but I'm not sure how it was done. PLEASE help a.s.a.p.!!! I don't want to kill it, and it's already not looking so great from the shipping process... =/ I buy many, many orchids on eBay, and rarely have problems. But yes, it's always safer to buy them in person, I agree. Sadly, there's only one place I can get orchids in Gainesville right now, and they're having problems with their vendor, so I've had no choice but to buy online. This is my first Vanda, though, and I didn't realize I needed a basket until the thing came in the mail! I'll try the sphagmum moss, though...thanks!

Long sword shaped leaves like Vanda. Spiky flower base like Allium. Long peach orange petals. Blooms 1/year. ? This is a mystery plant. It blooms once from between 1-8 years. The spiky flower base is at the end of a long stem and is thicker than an allium flower base but has about 15 spikes is left over from the last bloom 2 years ago and has dried out papery white onion type petals hanging off it. The new bloom which is starting to bloom, is a peachy salmon color and it looks like the petals will be longish and maybe pointed on the ends, but I can't really tell for sure. It may have origins in China or Taiwan, not sure. Does anyone have any idea what this plant is called???

Orchid Basic Care? I have purchased many orchids plants and killed them. After more than 3 dozens or so (I lost count) in 5 years, I finally was able to get 2 of my orchids still alive, it's been more than 6 months. One is oncidium, the other is dendrobium. I've been placing them in the bathroom window above the shower after the blooms fell. The oncidium has spiked again (yipee). The dendrobium looks okay, but I cut off the flower stems after the blooms fell months ago. Is this okay? I'm also purchasing several other orchids (1 vanda, 1 phal, 1 cymbidium and 1 cattleya). Can any of them be planted outside? Also, any tips on how to cut off the stems after blooms for each species are appreciated. For fertilizing, I read that I should fertilize every 10 days to 2 weeks. How long do I have to do this and when? Is it all year long? Is the fertilizing method the same for all orchid species? When's blooming season for each species? What type of orchid media should I use? Thank you much for the tips.

How many roots does an orchid need to survive? I've recently started growing orchids (phals, paphs, cattleyas, dendrobiums and vandas), and I ordered two beautiful orchids from an excellent seller on eBay (past experiences have been great), but was upset to find that all but one of the roots were rotten on both plants. They're both phalaeonopsis. I trimmed all the dead, rotten roots away, but now there's just one healthy one left, and the leaves are looking soft and droopy from lack of support. What can I do to save my orchids?! Is there anything I can put on the roots or the bark to stimulate or expedite new root growth? I'm too new to orchids to know this yet...but they're beautiful plants and I don't want them to die! My favorite one is in spike right now, so I haven't even seen it bloom yet! =(
